Founded in 1912, Meridian Hill Park has a very unique appeal with perhaps no one recognizing this neighborhoods potential more than the park’s founder, Mary Foote Henderson (née Newton, from which the name Newton House is derived). Wife, mother, author, activist and hospitality connoisseur, Mary came to be known as “The Empress of Sixteenth Street.”
